Bible Reading Plan

Redemptive-Historical Bible Reading Plan

This year we are doing a 16 part plan that reveals God's plan of redemption in the Old Testament. Here is what the organizer says about it:

"I have outlined redemptive history in 16 stages, from creation up through the open-ended expectation of the Day of the Lord. Then I provide carefully curated sections from the OT that trace this history. I tried to pick at least one chapter from every OT book, but to keep it reasonably short I had to leave some out. I also pepper in psalms along the way. Then, for each stage, I provide a chapters from the NT that bring out how each of those steps of redemptive history (for ancient Israel) are fulfilled in the new era in Christ." Greg Laniers Blog

We will have three to four weeks to read and reflect on each part

Come discuss this plan together in our FORUM. See you there!

Nazarene News

Philippines Field NYI serves others through missions trip

The Philippines Field recently sent its third team of young people on a local missions trip. The group of eight served at Panabo Church of the Nazarene in Davao del Norte, Philippines. The team was led by Field Youth Coordinator Girle Ann Dado and Kevin and Janet Wilkins, field Work & Witness coordinators.

The participants were excited to witness how God works through the local church as well as the team members’ lives in order to impact the community. Since the team members are professionals and most have full-time jobs, serving on a missions trip is a sacrifice for them. Despite the challenges, the Lord provided ways to make this missions trip happen.

For three days, the team worked at the church, painting the newly constructed training center and outside walls and varnishing the doors. They also installed lighting fixtures outside the church. The training center will be used by the local church and the district to educate and train lay people and pastors about church planting while offering the Course of Study.

“With a grateful heart as part of the Panabo NYI, I give thanks to the Lord for the lives of these sisters and brothers, who not only helped us in the beautification of the building but also showed us amazing things that God can do when you follow His will in your life,” said Irish, a member of the team.

The team also had various opportunities to witness to those in the community. They gave away gifts to children through a partnership with Samaritan’s Purse. They were able to have fellowship with other youth in the community and had a great time playing games, worshipping God, and sharing the Word.

The missions trip to Panabo church impacted the young people, who were able to witness and experience the service and hospitality of the local church. They enjoyed working alongside the local church family.

“This missions trip encourages me that someday I’ll be part of those who are sent as missionaries,” said Renz from Eastern Visayas District.

Humor... Kind of

  • What did Jonah’s family say when he told them about what happened before reaching Nineveh? “Hmm, sounds fishy.”

  • What was Moses’ wife, Zipphora, known as when she’d throw dinner parties? “The hostess with the Moses.”

  • What did the classmate say when asked why they kept walking next to the same person at school? “I was told I’m supposed to walk by Faith!”

  • Which Bible character was super-fit? Absalom.

  • What did Adam say when he was asked his favorite holiday? “It’s Christmas, Eve.”

  • What do you call a Bible character who just pulled into church? A parking Lot.

  • What did pirates call Noah’s boat? “The arrrrrrk.”

How to Get to Heaven

A teacher asked the children in her Sunday School class, “If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale, and give all the money to the church, would I get into heaven?”

“No!” The children all answered.

“If I cleaned the church everyday, mowed the yard, and kept everything neat and tidy, would I then get into heaven?”

Again, the answer was “NO!”

“Well,” she continued, “then how can I get into heaven?

In the back of the room, a five year-old boy shouted, “You gotta be dead!”
